Freeport's Otha Brooks carved himself a spot on this list as a home run hitter as a receiver and kick returner both for Freeport and Northern Illinois University.
Brooks was honorable mention All-NIC-9 in 1989 as a junior after recording 165 yards receiving on 10 receptions for a 3-6 Freeport team. He also set a school record with a 72-yard punt return touchdown.
Brooks led the Pretzels to a 5-4 mark as a senior, doing damage out of the backfield as a receiver and runner. He gained 643 yards on 104 carries with seven TDs. He caught 16 passes for 327 yards with three TD catches. He also had two kick-return TDs called back because of penalties.
The big-play ability earned him a scholarship to NIU where he contributed for four seasons for a rebuilding program. His best year was 1994 when he was an occasional starter at receiver. Overall, he had six carries for 13 yards, 257 yards receiving on 16 catches and 437 yards on 20 kickoff returns. He scored two touchdowns.
