Breakout Athletes: Dan Bingenheimer, Belvidere

The greatest pro basketball player in Boone County history was not even an all-conference player for the Bucs. Dan Bingenheimer was seventh in the BIG 9 in scoring at 16.6 points per game in 1980-1981 when he quit the team because of a dispute with the coach.

Bingenheimer enrolled at Wabash Community College and was persuaded to tryout. He ended up making the team and becoming a junior college All-American. That earned him a schoarlship to the University of Missouri.
